Pua (Flower) Tiki Torch
$316.45 – $321.45
A Hawaiian tiki torch with a decorative plumeria flower pattern cut into its stainless steel cylinder. This torch produces a brilliant 12″ -15″ flame. The bottom 1″ female brass fitting hooks up to a standard 1″ galvanized pipe (not included). Because the flame burns within the cylinder, the tiki torch should be installed completely vertically. It can be installed either by itself or in pairs with staggered heights. Beachside manufactures and sells the torch head only. Poles are not included. Why aren’t the poles included?
Description
The Malama Torch®️ was created by Native Hawaiian artist Donald Namohala Yuen in 1967. Today, his daughter Leilehua Yuen and her husband, Manu Josiah, continue to handcraft each decorative stainless steel Malama Torch®️ cylinder and other products at their facility on the Island of Hawai’i. 10 Year Warranty
Beachside Lighting warranties its decorative cylindrical Malama Series Torches to be free from manufacturing defect for ten (10) years from the date of purchase. This includes deterioration due to corrosion from external elements on the torch’s brass fittings and its stainless base. This warranty does not cover the decorative stainless portion (which is removable and replaceable) or the perforated stainless steel screen immediately surrounding the burner, as long-term deterioration due to heat and corrosion is normal and dependent on frequency of use and proximity to the ocean. While even commercial applications should be able to expect several years’ worth of use before either of the above fittings need replacement (with residential applications getting even more life), Beachside Lighting cannot officially warranty these two portions for a specific time frame.
Any above warranty is void if the fixture is not installed in accordance to specific fixture instructions, has been modified, or is used in a non-standard application. Should a fixture need to be submitted for return, a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) is required from Beachside Lighting. The repair or replacement of a fixture’s component(s) or entire fixture is at Beachside Lighting’s discretion. Any labor needed to remove or re-install the fixture is the responsibility of the purchaser and is not covered in this warranty. Discoloration from soot is normal at areas surrounding the flame. Beachside Lighting makes no guarantee as to the extent of this discoloration. Copper and brass patina naturally. Beachside Lighting will not make any guarantee as to the rate or extent of this natural process. While this legalese is a requirement to protect the manufacturer in the above-mentioned instances, any of our client’s concerns are of great importance to Beachside Lighting. We realize the value of keeping a satisfied customer.
FAQs
A gas tiki torch will typically use Propane (LP), or Natural Gas. The desired gas type needs to be specified. To achieve the same flame height, each gas type varies in its incoming pressure, BTU consumption, as well as internal orifice sizes.
Although the incoming gas pressure for a low pressure line can vary, at a typical 7” water column (.25 psi), a natural gas tiki torch will consume roughly 22,500 BTUs, producing a 12” – 15” high flame.
At a typical low pressure setting of an 11” water column (.40 psi), a propane gas tiki torch will consume roughly 14,600 BTUs, producing a 12” – 15” flame.
A tiki torch consuming 14,600 BTUs at a typical 11” water column and fed by a full 20 lb. propane tank, also referred to as a “grill” cylinder, should last more than 28 hours.
A tiki torch made from a corrosion resistant metal or alloy will last longest. This includes copper, brass, or a 300 series stainless steel.
Most torches at Hawaii’s hotels and resorts are gas torches, using either synthetic natural gas (SNG) on O’ahu, or propane (LP) gas on other islands. Torches are typically either a standard conical shape, made from spun copper and supplied with brass fittings; or a decorative “Malama” series, which features various artistic designs burned into a cylinder made from 304 stainless steel, also supplied with other brass fittings.
While there are manufacturers of specialized custom torches, some manufacturers offer cataloged items which include conical, cylindrical, and “bowl” shaped gas torches, set to operate on either natural or propane gas.
Any tiki torch built to withstand nightly use, including for hotel, resort, and restaurant applications would be considered commercial grade, but would require its components to be constructed out of corrosion resistant materials, such as copper, brass, and stainless steel.
The amount of light given off by a gas tiki torch is dictated by the flame height, which is dependent upon the gas consumption. A traditional conical tiki torch at a 2.3-meter mounting height, and 15” flame with no wind will deliver approximately .48 footcandles (5.17 lux) at a 1 meter radius from the pole. At a 5-meter radius, the light level drops to .13 footcandles (1.4 lux).
Wind resistance of gas tiki torches is dependent upon the gas consumption. A typical natural gas torch using 22,500 BTUs / hour (producing a 12” – 15” flame height with no wind) has remain lit after being tested in 40 mph winds at CSA’s Irvine, California facility. However, winds greater than 15 mph will reduce the brilliance of the flame, with the wind possibly making it difficult to even enjoy the outdoors at that level.
